PersonalI live in the Pilbara, a remarkable area of Western Australia that covers approximately 20% of the land of WA, and has the lowest population density of the state. I am surrounded by red dirt, breathtaking landscapes, and some of the most incredible waterholes in the world (I might be biased).
My husband and I moved here for work 5 and a half years ago, and fell in love with what is on offer. However, despite being surrounded by red dirt, I still continue to wear high heels and white dresses! As a girl from the Gold Coast I am not lost, merely enjoying where life's adventures have so far taken me. I often drive my husband bonkers (just ask him about the many pillows in our home, or my love to wash at inconvenient times!!), but I know that despite being high maintenance, he loves me unconditionally (naw!). My four-legged fur baby takes me for a walk every afternoon (although no high heels for that!), and I enjoy exploring the 4WD tracks (not as a passenger, but as the driver!) the Pilbara has to offer. |
ProfessionalI don't go to work. I go to school.
I have spent four years working within the early childhood team at an amazing school in the Pilbara. My two years in Pre-primary and then two years in Kindergarten were fun-filled, challenging, and I established my confidence to stand up for what I believe should be a priority for young learners: fostering a love of learning (that would be play because play is serious business!). I must have made a positive impression because even now I still feel like a rockstar when I see my past learners who stop me to say HELLO! Spending time in upper primary, specifically a multi-age Year 4/5/6 Academic Enrichment class, has come with a new set of exciting challenges. If taking a traditional perspective, I have remained true to my believe of hands-on authentic learning experiences being of vital importance, and have adopted a STEAM pedagogical approach (STEAM is explained under the 'presentations' page). I have been fortunate to have won the role of Academic Enrichment Coordinator for the local network of primary schools, and through this role supported schools and teachers to deliver Academic Enrichment Opportunities to students in Years 4, 5 and 6. Early in 2018 I was asked to step into the acting role of Coordinator for the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership. This role has broadened my perspective about working across a region (as opposed to simply within one school), and every single day I learn something new. |
